If Illustrators Designed Football Shirts...

As some of you may know, there is nothing in this world as near and dear to my heart as the game of football. As most of you probably know, football's crown jewel, the world cup, will be played in South Africa this summer. Umbro and Anomaly have collaborated with designers to reimagine seven countries' football crests.

The seven in question are the only nations ever to lift the prestigious Jules Rimet Trophy: England, France, Germany, Italy, Brasil, Argentina and Uruguay.

If you need help distinguishing what from what, at the top you have my favorite in Brasil, followed by Argentina, Uruguay, Italy, Germany, France, and England below.

Nike has a similar project that doesn't really measure up to the class and intricacy of the Umbro creations in my opinion, but they might be worth a look: go here.

Action Sports Drives

This is not, apparently, a new company, but Action Sports Drives are sweet and I want one.

Actually there are many things I want, and these probably near the bottom of the list. You know what I really want right now? A Chipotle chicken fajita burrito with everything on it. You know what the chances of that happening are? Zero. Fucking nil. Because I live in Korea. Yeah.

But hey, there's always a bright side: I will not eat something that contains more calories than a three layer frosted birthday cake.

For those of you who don't want to watch the vid, the particulars are: 340 feet, 3-speedboat garage, master suite which is as secure as a bank vault, and a helipad on the bow. The interior was designed by Frenchman Philippe Starcke, who is famous for being a French designer.

Ah, Russia. You'll notice his offices are in London, not Moscow. This is because if his office was in Moscow, he'd be dead because those vicious bastards eat each other alive. Not that I'm prejudiced against Russians or anything...but I've seen a couple fictional films, and they really opened my eyes to some of the startling realities of Russian business. Or something. I was only joking comrades.

New LCD Soundsystem Album Due in May

LCD Soundsystem (99% James Murphy, 1% ??) have released the album artwork for their new LP "This is Happening," which is due to be released May 18 on DFA/Virgin Records. You can listen to the first new track (and Pitchfork Best New Track) Drunk Girls right...riiiiiight...here.

The track also has a Newrosis Best New Lyric: "Just cause you're hungry doesn't mean that you're lean."

According to Murphy, the track is about "drunk people and fun things." Suffice it to say, I appreciate his direct approach to songwriting.

"It's" vs. "Its"

Newrosis is having some grammatical issues with the difference between the possessive "it's" and whatever the hell "its" is. This is especially troubling given that our current occupation is to teach English to small Korean children. We are reaching out to you, the community of Newrosis readers, to give us direction in this most troubling of grammatical SNAFUs.

Star Wars Uncut

I've been following the Star Wars Uncut project for a while now, and they have released one of the scenes, titled "The Escape," in which Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, and the droids flee the Death Star after Obi Wan has his mortal coil shuffled courtesy of one Darth Vader.

The scope of the project is the entire first film, in which aspiring filmmakers from around the world claimed 15 second pieces of scenes from the Uncut website and filmed them on their own. The end product will be 473 :15 clips. I was struggling with the proper way to structure that whole "473 15" bit and settled on the colon. FU I'm working over here.

To me, the greatest thing about this project is that George Lucas, the genius behind such amazing films as The Phantom Menace and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, will not be involved in any way. This leads to the possibility of some truly magical cinematic moments (if not wrought intentionally, at least occurring by accident), which is more than Lucas has managed in the last two decades.

Is it going to be great? Maybe. Will it be better than Clone Wars? Yes.

SR-71 Blackbird

Gizmodo has an awesome piece by a SR-71 pilot on their page today that I will not copy/paste out of respect for their source and general laziness. Go check it out though, it is worth the read.

The SR-71, a product of the infamous Lockheed Martin Skunk Works, is the fastest, most badass atmospheric aircraft of all time. It still holds several major airpseed records, and looks like it should have laser cannons, energy shields, and an Astromech droid co-pilot.

Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous Commits Suicide

Mark Linkous, the brains behind the electro-alt band Sparklehorse, has committed suicide according to (now numerous) sources throughout the land. Sparklehorse's third album, Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain, was on my Best of 2006 list, and the recently self-released collaboration with Danger Mouse (of Grey Album and Gnarls Barkley fame) was on my list of music to acquire.

Depression is a tough thing to face down, and it is truly a sad state of affairs when someone so brilliant and with so much to offer did not see another way out. I can't really say anything else about the man since I have not walked in his shoes, but I for one am disappointed and saddened by his death.
