Texts From Last Night

Texts From Last Night was brought to my attention by a co-worker (well technically she's an intern and I'm a contractor, so we are more like two people who sit in the same proximity in a very large office building, so whatever, tangent monster out) and is absolute genius.

The brainchild of some people who are clearly very sick, this is the holy grail for voyeuristic forays into OPB (other peoples' business (C)2009 RGD). The numbers preceding the messages are area codes, so those who submit their texts can lie anonymously about their adventures. Despite dubious authenticity, these are seriously funny. Some favorites below:

(615): yo i just woke up i feel so weird, and the absolut is still fill, so is the 30, what the fuck did we drink last night man? And will you please come out of the bathroom.
(702): Bro... we didn't even hang out last night??

(781): I just woke up surrounded in unopened snacks

(958): Ok I think I'm on a date with a hooker from Louisiana
(303): go home
(985): But it's funny

(540): is it bad that i shorted Freddie Mac immediatly after I heard about
the CFO?

(215): Stoned at DSW. SO MANY SHOES! THEY'RE FREAKING ME OUT.

(301): Very drunk. laura says hi. i can't find my pants. i think i'm in
philly, but it might be jersey somewhere

(440): I love you
(720): are you drunk
(440): yes but I def love you, we should get married
(720): But I'm Jewish
(440): embrace Jesus

(516): gavin joseph was born around 1 oclock 9lbs 12oz... over 21 inches
long
(917): Thats what she said

(970): Remember that night when i almost got you arrested? Is that funny
yet?

(212): You feel like going out tonight?
(1-212): Does a 14yr-old girl look good beat up? I'll bring the
handle

Stereographic Images of Tokyo

Using an ultra-wide fisheye lens(?), Flickr user heiwa4126 has taken some really crazy images of Tokyo and its surrounding environs. His equipment includes a Nikon D80 SLR camera and the aforementioned Sigma 8mm fisheye lens. Other than that, I don't know much about it and I'm disinclined to investigate further at this point. Just appreciate the radness and look at the pretty pictures.

Check out the rest of the images (about 100) here.

Phil Orth Original Artwork

Phil Orth is a local artist transplant from Montana who has produced a remarkable body of work, largely oil paintings of...large size. He lives out in the country, but has been convinced to display his artwork in Minneapolis at Hair Police, my favorite hair joint.

Phil's inspirations include clowns, minotaurs, and ballerinas. None of that is true (so far as I know), but I've got some pics of the installation and I need some text to go along with it so rather than make an uneducated attempt at artistic comparison or description, I'm going to stick to lies and wild speculation.

Hmmmm that's kind of a cop-out isn't it? Okay, I think he's channelling some Salvador Dali, and if you're into channelling people, Dali is one of the best for abstract oils. I guess I'm not really familiar with anyone else in his league... Picasso? Or are they in different leagues? I mean Picasso's work is generally 2D and Dali's is 3D, right? Am I just making stuff up now? I knew this would happen despite my best intentions. Oh well...its my blog, right?

Anyway if you like what you see and want to get a better look or even one of your own, Phil can be reached via email at philsfineart@gmail.com, and Hair Police has directions on their site.
