In pictures: The DR Congo at 50

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) is 50 years old, and to mark the occasion, Congolese photographer Stefan Vanfleteren has "produced a series of 50 portraits that examine the state of a troubled nation." Check out some of the images at the BBC. The captions are heart-rending and reflect the impossible living conditions in the war-torn central African nation, a former Belgian colony.

KAWS at Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum

A great video review of the KAWS exhibit which recently opened at Connecticut's Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum. Aside from Shepard Fairey, KAWS, aka Brian Donnelly, is probably the most accomplished and widely known street artist of his generation. His work has made him both comercially and artistically successful, and this exhibition, while featuring new artwork, is also a bit of a retrospective.

The video is worth the 3 minutes of your life you will spend watching it.

Nike SB Dunk High “Born In The U.S.A.”

If I still lived in the States, I'd probably never blog about something this Amurrican, but I just spent my first 4th of July abroad and I'm nostalgic and homesick, so here they are: Nike SB Dunk Highs made with denim, canvas, and victory. My country 'tis the best at summer holidays.
