
The
Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) is 50 years old, and to mark the occasion, Congolese photographer Stefan Vanfleteren has "produced a series of 50 portraits that examine the state of a troubled nation."
Check out some of the images at the BBC. The captions are heart-rending and reflect the impossible living conditions in the war-torn central African nation, a former Belgian colony.
