Alinghi 5 – First sail – 20 July 2009

Alinghi 5 is a 90-foot catamaran which is a first step in the Swiss team's development process for the 33rd America's Cup, which will be held in 2010 in Valencia, Spain.

Now I guess I'm behind the times here, but I always thought giant catamarans and America's Cup boats were different things, since in reality a cat and a single hull are pretty different rides, but what the hell do I actually know about anything?

Anyway, the video above is Alinghi 5 sailing on Lake Geneva. The real Lake Geneva, not the one in Wisconsin. Because that wouldn't make sense. Much. Sigh.

Dan Black

Some solid Electro-Brit Pop from Londoner Dan Black. I'm gonna go with a cross between Robbie Williams, Mike Skinner (The Streets), and Feeder. Black rose to blogosphere prominence with last year's HYPNTZ, a cover of Notorious B.I.G.'s massive 90's Puffy piece. When he was denied permission to release the cover as a single by the Bigg one's estate, however, it was back to the drawing board.

Black's new album Un is available for purchase or pirate, just browse all the usual suspects.

Also, ilictronix has a solid Passion Pit remix of Symphonies as well as the HYPNTZ track.

Coarsetoys Paw! Spectrum Version

New vinyl toys from Coarsetoys. Rabbits, I would say. Mean, burly rabbits with one thing on their minds: carrots. Yes, carrots. As cliche as it may sound, I suspect that's what they're after. Just give them the carrots and they'll leave quietly.

Available for $150(?!?) apiece or $400(?!?!?!?!?) for the whole set, these are being hawked as a limited artist series vinyl toy at the San Diego Comic-Con. Yes, the very same Comic-Con where my zombie shirt may be found.

The Reversible Zombie Shirt

Someday, when I look back on my life, I would like to say that I had at least one moment of genius. While I don't advocate the label be applied lightly, I do have my own opinions as to what qualifies. This t-shirt, being given away by Capcom to promote an upcoming Resident Evil video game, is someone's moment of genius. Kudos to you sir. Kudos.

Os GĂȘmeos Mural, NYC

Os GĂȘmeos are Brazilian bros who make some of the most unique street art anywhere. I have to say I'm not always a fan, but their ambition and audacity sometimes combine to produce works of extraordinary quality and presence.

While I wouldn't say this is one of their best or boldest, I'm really struggling with finding content on days that are not beautiful and sunny and require me to be outside. Summertime has absorbed virtually all of my time, and therefore only on shabby, rainy days like today (and there have only been a few) can I truly immerse myself in the internets.

Anyway, this piece was done over a tribute mural to Keith Haring somewhere in NYC. The post on hypebeast is probably the least helpful thing I've ever read, so I'm going to check on location and get back to you in the next paragraph...

Right. So this is on the corner of Houston St. and Bowery, which I think is on the Lower East Side, but I'm from the midwest so do your own research if you plan to go searching.
